Raja Peary Mohan College has travelled for one hundred and thirty years along the path of the advancement of learning, warmly embracing all those who love and respect education. This seat of learning, the fruit of the right Hon’ble Baboo Jaykrishna Mukherjee’s long cherished dream of establishing a College in Uttarpara, the southernmost part of Hooghly District, by the calm Hooghly River, began its radiant journey in 1887 as Uttarpara College. The founder, a versatile and talented leader of Bengal in the nineteenth century and a landlord of the district of Hooghly, passed away in 1888, leaving the onus for the growth and progress of the College upon his able son, Raja Peary Mohan Mukherjee, M.A., B.L., C.S.I, eminent scholar and leader of our country, after whom the College has been renamed in 1953, as a mark of acknowledgment for his enterprise towards taking care of the College during the three decades after the death of his father.

The College has been a torchbearer of higher education in the district of Hooghly since then. However, even after 130 years, the core values that guided the ideals of the founder of this College haven’t changed much. We remain committed to follow the path shown by him, yet have kept pace with the changing times. Today, the college with a glorious past has truly evolved into an institution with modern facilities. In the streams of Humanities, Science and Commerce, the overall result of our College is among the best in the University. With the harmonious confluence of age-old tradition and modernity, our College is offering a wholesome education that is pragmatic, eco-friendly and job-oriented.

The college has a deep-rooted glorious past adorned by outstanding alumni, many of whom are scholars, scientists, sportspersons, politicians, and personalities in the world of cultural activities. The Alumni association, with its experienced and successful members, helps the present students with career planning. In the streams of science, arts, commerce the results of our college are at the top rank of the university exams. With the harmonious blending of tradition with automation/globalization, our College is offering an education that is in the true sense pragmatic, eco-friendly and job-oriented.

The college has begun the process of opening its second campus before inviting the assessment by NAAC at the end of the third cycle in 2020. A few job-oriented courses and regular P.G. courses under the University of Calcutta will be offered in the sessions of 2018-2019/2019-2020. In the field of higher education of our country, Raja Peary Mohan College promises to remain evergreen, offering shade for harmonious growth, nurturing diverse possibilities for fruition and fulfillment - thereby living up to the exceptions of preparing India’s youth for nation-building and development.

The University of Calcutta has introduced the CBCS system which will prove beneficial to the student community. Our College is fully equipped to deal with the changes in curricula and methodology. We have very competent, erudite and dedicated faculty who always strive for the betterment of the students. We also try to provide our students exposure beyond academia through activities like NSS, Eco Club etc. which help them to diversity and make a real difference in society at large. Our College has a great track record in providing support to Government Scholarship programs like Kanyashree and Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship.
