APC ROY ECO CLUB

INTRODUCTION :
Environmental awareness has become an unavoidable reality in today’s globalised reality. The need to spread environmental awareness is enormous in the context of successfully addressing environmental problems Environmental awareness is to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection. Promoting environmental awareness is an easy way to become an environmental steward and participate in creating a brighter future for the next generation.
The collective realization of imparting environment-related education over the past few years has made it necessary to improve the concept of environment conservation all over the world. However, the efforts put in by individuals and other agencies are limited and infrequent. Recently a new trend has been observed in the development of environmental awareness among children. The underlying concept here is that the most important target group in public education is young people, and the educational institute is the avenue to install good practices in them (UNEP, 2014).
As a responsible institute, RAJA PEARY MOHAN COLLEGE established an environmental committee named – Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Eco-club in the year 2005 with vision of conservation, protection, and management of the environment, essential for achieving sustainable living and development. Eco Club ensures that it is the time to look closely at nature for a greener and safer tomorrow.

THE BEGINNING:
National Council for Science and Technology (NCSTC) or Rastriya Vigyan Evam Pradyogiki Sanchar Parishad (RVPSP), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has been communicating science to the masses since its inception in 1982. The NCSTC (RVPSP) has, in the past, executed successful and highly acclaimed campaigns such as the Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha (BJGVJ) in 1992. These projects had short, long, and very long-term impacts on the science communications scene in India. The insights and experience gained during these two large projects would be brought to bear on the "Year of Scientific Awareness" (YSA), 2004. In this context, Raja Peary Mohan College in the year 2005 established the APC Roy Eco-Club to begin scientific awareness.
APC ROY Eco Club has since then, passed through various convenorships since the last two decades with various reforms and activities for environment sustainability.
