Green Lite RPMC

“Greenlite” is one such initiative- a project which has been proposed on behalf of “APC ROY ECO CLUB” in accordance with IQAC which is aimed to fulfil Green campus initiatives.

The greenlite project is an initiative to make the college campus a more green covered area. We all know our campus is constrained with open land area and most of our college campus is utilized under the building area. Hence increasing green cover within the campus simply means increasing green cover within the building area.

Under this project we wished to increase the green cover at  various positions within the college campus with various ways of greenery like  :
• Eco-pockets
• Medicinal Gardens
• Mini-orchidariums
• Plantariums
• Terrariums
• Miscellaneous

We would also like to manage  the bio-degradable waste generated from the college canteens as well as students, teachers, staffs Tiffin left-over, recycle them to generate fertilizer via the BOKASHI METHOD.

We would also like to recycle some of the non-biodegradble products of our college (plastic containers) and use them as plant pots( an innovative way)

Time to time eco awareness campaign and competitions.

The college area to be taken under green cover has following constrains at various locations like:

a) Inadequate lighting condition for plant growth.
b) Barrier to increase dead weight (of pots+ potting materials) on various floor.
To overcome them , some innovations had to be included which itself is a uniqueness to this project like:
a) Use of coco-peat soils (to maintain the light weightiness)
b) Use of recycled plastic/tin products as pots (to decrease weight and budget)
c) Production of fertilizer (Liquid+ solid)
d) Use of shade loving plants.
e) Propagation of plants (To lower further maintenance cost) .

Preparation Of People Biodiversity Register: (Detailing of Activity)

Biodiversity Register is a documentation that contains comprehensive information on Biotic resources available in a landscape, its demographic set up, as well as the perception of the local people regarding the local biotic resources.

Biodiversity is measured in terms of the number and types of species available in an area in a certain period of time. For the existence of human society biodiversity plays a leading role. Principal component of the biosphere is plants.

National Biological Diversity Act of India (2002) mandates that local knowledge of biodiversity be registered in a national database, called the People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR).
