“In between Order and Disorder: From Origami to a Nobel Prize”; A Seminar by Department of Physics
Date: 18th November 2017
Name of the Speaker: Prof. Arunava Chakrabarti
Current Designation: Professor, Department of Physics, University of Kalyani
Synopsis of the lecture: We look around us and see the geometry in nature, e. g. trees, flowers, wings of the butterfly, coral, lattice, veins, snowflakes, honeybee hives etc. We are amazed.
Here we try to understand the geometrical symmetry and the connection between the math and the nature. We see the fibonacci sequence, reflected in nature, leads to the golden ratio. We try to understand the long standing question: “Is this ratio appreciated in aesthetic sense or there is something more about it?”
